Detroit receives UNESCO "City of Design" designation, first and only in U.S.

Great things continue to happen in Detroit!

"Detroit will be joining 47 cities from 33 countries as new members of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, comprised of cities that represent a strong legacy in one of seven creative fields, from Gastronomy and Literature to Design," according to Detroit Creative Corridor Center, or DC3, which started the application process in Spring 2015.

DC3 produced this short film, by Emmy award-winning filmmaker Stephen McGee, to showcase Detroit's talents and qualifications for the design designation.

"It's a testament to Detroit's legacy, as well as a recognition of our potential and commitment," says Ellie Schneider, Interim Executive Director at DC3, of the designation. "There is so much history and there are so many talented, committed people and organizations carrying on that legacy in Detroit today."
