Namira Islam Anani is the Director of Partnerships and Initiatives at Strategic Community Partners, where she fosters relationships to advance justice and community empowerment. A network weaver, lawyer, coach, and graphic designer, Namira has nearly two decades of experience in human rights education and training, committed to disrupting dehumanizing systems. She believes in the transformative power of creativity, connectedness, and cultural wisdom.
As founder of Nia Weaving LLC, Namira connects people, communities, and movements, creating spaces for justice and healing. She serves on the Racial Equity Fellowship Design Team for the Detroit Equity Action Lab (DEAL) and holds a coaching certification from Coaching for Healing, Justice, and Liberation (CHJL). Namira co-founded the Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative (MuslimARC) in 2014, where she led for eight years, and focuses on anti-racism, leadership, faith-based organizing, and disability justice.
Namira’s legal background includes poverty law in Flint, prisoners’ rights litigation, and work for the United Nations in The Hague. She has served on multiple boards, led fundraising efforts, and currently advises the Diversified Educational Foundation. A graphic designer, she has worked for the AFL-CIO and the U.S. Palestinian Community Network and freelanced since 2007.
Born in Detroit to Bangladeshi parents, Namira is an alumna of the University of Michigan and Michigan State University College of Law. She has received the University of Michigan’s Tapestry Award and the El-Hibri Foundation’s Young Leader Award. Namira has spoken at institutions like Harvard Divinity School and CUNY School of Law and contributed to various media on social justice issues.
