FRANK MCGHEE

Consultant & Community Leader

Frank McGhee, former Program Director at Detroit-based Neighborhood Service Organization (NSO), led the nonprofit’s Youth Initiatives Project, an elite program that provided leadership and advocacy training related to the prevention of violence and substance abuse. He mentored and coached young leaders, who would then educate their peers about the incidence of violence in the city and ways to prevent it.

Under his leadership, teen boys and girls became catalysts for change by improving attitudes about violence and drugs. They demonstrated their skills by conducting the largest gun buyback event in the city’s history in 2005. In 2013 they assisted 235 of their peers with obtaining summer employment. They would successfully advocate to end emergency management of Detroit Public Schools after meeting with the staff of the Governor of Michigan in 2016.
