Richard Grundy

CEO & Co-founder

Richard is the CEO and Co-founder of JOURNi. Journi’s an organization focused on empowering young Detroiters through tech education and entrepreneurship training. Prior to moving back to Detroit in 2016, Richard entered the tech world as a MSU Alum and career-changer interested in a better quality of life. He started, by quitting his sales job, and moving to NYC to enroll in a coding bootcamp. During that program, Richard saw the opportunities people could create for themselves with a background in technology and design-thinking. He went to be trained for a job and discovered how empowerment felt. After spending time as a coding instructor and an agile project-manager, he decided to move back to Detroit to expose his own community to opportunities in tech. JOURNi has been featured in numerous publications including Huffington Post, Rolling Out and Forbes. Richard has been named as a 2019 American Express CBMA Fellow, a 2019 Skillman BME Fellow, a 2019 Black Enterprise BE Modern Man and 2021 Gucci Changemaker.
