Brian Ferguson-Bey
Brian Ferguson-Bey is a proud product of Detroit, where he was born, raised, and attended Detroit Public Schools. After high school, Mr. Ferguson-Bey pursued a degree in Secondary Education with a focus on History at Wayne State University, where he was part of the distinguished Morris Hood Scholars cohort. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix.
Currently in his sixteenth year of public education, Mr. Ferguson-Bey has worked in various school systems and held multiple roles, including Social Studies Teacher (U.S./World History, Economics, Civics), Academic Interventionist, Curriculum Team Developer, and Community Activist. His dedication extends beyond the classroom, as he actively participates in organizations committed to recruiting and retaining teachers, particularly Black men, and engaging volunteers in the education system. These organizations include B.M.E.A, In Demand, and the Diversity Council, established by the Michigan Department of Education.
African American studies is central to his educational philosophy, which is inspired by the words of the Honorable Marcus Garvey: "People without the knowledge of their history and culture are like a tree without roots."
