To celebrate Women’s History Month, we wanted to learn more about the artist nicknamed “The First Lady of Song,” her impact in the music industry and how she became such an important influence in Detroit.

As COVID-19 continues to evolve, SCP is dedicated to protecting the health and safety of our team, partners and community members. With everyone’s well-being in mind, our team will transition to working remotely until Monday, April 6, 2020. This comes in addition to the suspension of all coworking and events in our space during this period.

ith the health of partners and community members in mind, we have decided to temporarily suspend use of our space for outside events and coworking until Monday, April 6. This decision is made in alignment with the State of Michigan’s recent community mitigation strategies and is done with the well-being of our community in mind, especially those most vulnerable.

Strategic Community Partners is searching for a marketing and communications intern to join our team this summer!

We are looking for an exemplary consultant with a passion for Detroit, all of our schools, and teachers to join the Teach 313 initiative. This person will work alongside the Teach 313 Manager in implementing vision and strategy. They will also work directly with colleges and universities, community organizations, local businesses, and beyond—all to increase teacher recruitment and retention. 

Something special happens whenever a community comes together and gathers in a shared space. That is why SCP is excited to open our new Community Center on Detroit’s west side!

As a native Detroiter, Alyssa Williams joined the Challenge Detroit because she wanted to learn more about her hometown and to be a part of its revitalization. Learn more about her experience so far and what she is learning about the city.

As the school year picks up, it can be difficult for teachers to find time to connect and, most importantly, unwind. There are assignments to grade, lessons to plan and classes to lead. That is why facilitating social events for local educators is such an important part of our work at Teach 313. Like many professionals, teachers need a place to connect with others in their field, celebrate each others’ work, and have fun.

As we celebrate out four year anniversary, a handful of our partners reflected on their experiences working with SCP and shared their visions for the future.

Four years ago, Chanel Hampton set out to create an organization that would positively impact the communities she was a part of. Today, Strategic Community Partners is creating change in cities across the country with a focus in her hometown of Detroit.

As SCP continues to grow, we are proud to welcome four new members to our team. Alyssa Williams, Will Sexton and Tessa Scott each bring a unique set of skills and experiences that will help further strengthen our organization’s work and commitment to community.

Headshots are often the first thing people see when researching you or your organization online and, in a sense, they are the logo for your personal brand. It’s easy to think of a headshot as just a photo, yet it can often be a matter of socioeconomic status, capital (social or financial), and confidence. 

With the help of several local businesses and community organizations, the United Way’s Summer Career Connections Fair recently helped connect more than 700 Detroit students with summer employment and development opportunities.
