Manager, Teach 313
Tessa Scott is an experienced educator with demonstrated history of working with children, families and communities in urban and rural communities. Her passion and experience in education are essential in her role as Manager of the Teach 313 initiative with Strategic Community Partners.
Tessa began her career as an educator with Teach For America, where she committed herself to teaching in the Central Promise Neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio. With a belief in education as a key to helping kids break the cycle of multigenerational poverty, Tessa led a youth development afterschool program, serving out of school education to over 300 Metro Cleveland students.
In addition to her background in the classroom, Tessa also joins Strategic Community Partners with program management experience from her leadership of a free tax preparation service for low and moderate income families in Cuyahoga County (Cleveland, Ohio), where she helped serve 14,000 residents and recruit over 400 volunteers.
Tessa’s professional and personal experiences have instilled a strong passion for vision-based work to help children, families, and communities. With this belief, it is her life’s mission to help empower and inspire individuals in reaching their destiny by defining their purpose. She lives by the Maya Angelou quote, “If you get, give. If you learn, teach. These are lessons to live by.”
Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, Tessa is excited to help guide Detroit into the future while respecting and honoring its past. Tessa obtained her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in communication studies along with a business minor and Diversity Studies Certificate and her master’s degree in nonprofit administration from John Carroll University.
Her hobbies include listening to music, dancing, shopping, sleeping, spending time with family, friends, and sorority sisters, and putting smiles on individuals faces through funny jokes and interactions.
